Within the scope of the process related to the phase-down of fluorinated greenhouse gases accelerated by becoming a party to the Kigali Amendment, regional trainings for the sector began to be organized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Presidency of Climate Change with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The first of the trainings was held in İzmir with almost 300 participants from also nearby provinces such as Manisa, Aydın, Muğla in order to inform the technical personnel working in the RAC sector, where fluorinated greenhouse gases are used intensively, on the relevant legislation and to improve themselves on the best practices regarding the intervention of equipment based on fluorinated greenhouse gases.
The training, which started with the participation of Vice President Dr. Abdulkadir Bektaş on behalf of the Presidency of Climate Change, and the opening speech by Volkan Polat, the Head of the Department of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Monitoring, continued with the presentations of the presidency climate experts on the legal obligations of technical services and technicians, certification and online systems that technical services have registration and reporting obligations. The training was completed with the presentations and practical demonstrations of İlyas Kuğu, who is a technical trainer and consultant in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration, on service applications, vapor compression refrigeration cycles and sealing applications. The good news that important and sector-directing trainings will continue in Istanbul in June and then in different regions was also given by the officials of the Presidency of Climate Change.
Fluorinated greenhouse gases include hydrofluorocarbon, perfluorocarbon and sulfur-hexafluoride gases, which have a greenhouse effect thousands of times more than carbon dioxide, that is, global warming potential. Turkey, together with the Kigali Amendment of the Montreal Protocol, committed to the phase-down of the production and consumption of fluorinated greenhouse gases, like all the parties. In this context, the intervention of certified and competent personnel to the equipment is critical in preventing the release of these gases, which are mostly used in the RAC sector, to the atmosphere.
